About the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club

As told by Charter Member, Lion Ernest Stacey:

"A few guys were getting together in the old Pillars Inn back in March 1968 to discuss the formation of a new Lions Club for Tsawwassen. Two members of the Ladner Lions provided the needed guidance. It was their desire to include Point Roberts and were fortunate to make the acquaintance of one, Bert Gladu. Bert owned Ben's grocery store at the Point and proved to be a valuable asset for the club. Bert is also a charter member. Soon after the charter of the new club, the name was changed to the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club.

One of the first projects was building a school playground under the guidance of Lion Bob McLaren. To raise money for this project, some recently felled trees were cut and split for firewood and then sold to the community. Other early projects included wooden bus shelters and providing a wheelchair for an individual crippled in a swimming accident. The club was especially proud of the donation they were able to give to the building of the new Delta Hospital. To foster a good relationship with the local business community, the meeting place was changed from year to year and included, The Pillars, Marios, Best Western Hotel and the Cannery in Point Roberts."
